ABSTRACT, BUT IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS.

The debut album ‘Flawlessly Flawed’ by Kevin McClure is a collection of songs that describe how it feels to be a human. The full length, 12-song album from McClure was long in the works, weaving together meaningful lyrics, unique collaborations, and a touch of soul. Kevin’s lyrics feel honest, sincere, and powerful.

The project gives the listener a view into McClure’s life from: the struggles of being a modern day musician, his walk with faith, and his journey through love, the list goes on. It’s vulnerable and honest while still being upbeat and catchy.

McClure released an EP (extended play) in 2025 titled 'A Collection of Songs From Flawlessly Flawed’ giving us a peek into what this album had in store. The 6-song EP introduced the title track, 'Flawlessly Flawed’, one that I found to be a little something along the lines of a Tom Petty track. It also introduced ‘All Is Right’, a collaboration with Surrender the Tides.

The Surrender the Tides collaboration is one of many on the album. Other notable collaborations include, my friends call me Mel and Joy VanTrimmell of Midwest Dilemma.

My personal favorite on the album was track 6, ‘Tongue Tied’. I felt this song was not just lyrically, but instrumentally the most abstract, It felt like no other on the project. Blending vocals from McClure and an elaborate cello piece from VanTrimmell, the song felt intentional and well put together. Joy and I had spoken about this song months before I was able to hear it for myself at a show we had played together saying “yeah, I got to work on a song on the album, I think it turned out pretty cool”, I had no idea just how “cool” the song would really be.

He’s said the album is meant to be played live, and being a performer myself, I can certainly feel that throughout the album. One I felt was meant to be played live was ‘Spring Rain’, which just so happens to follow ‘Tongue Tied’ on the album. The song has some big vocals, and some introspective instruments making it a perfect one for the stage.

In fact, McClure will get to play many of these songs live later this month for his Album Release Party, which is not just narrowed down to a specific guest list, but also held in a secret location. Kevin also had the pleasure of playing a few of these songs live opening for Switchfoot, a life-long inspiration of his, in Cheyanne, WY. in June of ‘26.

Throughout my time listening, I tried to place one specific genre on the album, I quickly found that wouldn’t be possible. This isn’t a pop album, it’s not indie, it’s not rock-it’s so abstract that it’s hard to put a label on. With country leaning songs like ‘Cheating Death’ to Americana tunes like the title track, ‘Flawlessly Flawed’, you can feel how different this album is. None of these songs feel inauthentic, they feel like they’re woven together to create something that not all musicians are capable of.

The full length album will be available exclusively on Vinyl, CD, and digital download under Good Life Records July 17th. Do yourself a favor, grab a copy, and give it a listen front to back.
